Optilink OLT monitoring and ONU management
RadixOLT reads both Optilink EPON chassis, the OP-EOLT_11444 and the generic EasyPath model, each with the split between SNMP and the CLI that its firmware actually supports, measured command by command.

What RadixOLT reads
On the OP-EOLT_11444 the vendor’s MIB declares a complete ONU table that the firmware does not implement, so identity comes from one CLI command and optics from SNMP. The generic EPON model is the reverse. SNMP reads take none of the OLT’s CLI logins, which most chassis allow only one or two of. CLI means a session over SSH or Telnet, whichever the OLT is set to.
| Reading | How | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ONU list, status and description (OP-EOLT_11444) | CLI | show onu-info all returns the whole chassis in about 20 seconds; there is no per-port loop. |
| Optical power for every online ONU (OP-EOLT_11444) | SNMP | Hundredths of a unit: -2376 is −23.76 dBm, checked against show optical-diag on the same ONU. |
| Uptime (OP-EOLT_11444) | CLI + SNMP | The chassis clock minus the ONU’s registration time, capped at the chassis’s own uptime. See the notes. |
| Distance and last deregister reason (OP-EOLT_11444) | CLI | One command per ONU, so it runs on an optional slower sweep and on a single ONU’s poll, never on the 15-minute one. |
| PON transceiver readings (OP-EOLT_11444) | SNMP | TX power, bias, voltage and temperature, the only reading that says anything about a port with no ONUs. |
| ONU list, status, distance and uptime (generic EPON) | SNMP | Uptime is shown only for online ONUs: the column keeps counting through downtime. |
| Optical power, deregister reason and per-ONU traffic (generic EPON) | CLI | Optics merged on MAC, never on port and id, because the chassis authorizes by MAC and can refill a slot between reads. |
| PON and uplink ports, and all port traffic (generic EPON) | SNMP | |
| MACs behind an ONU | CLI | On the OP-EOLT_11444, from the port-wide listing filtered to the ONU; see the notes for why. The whole-chassis read on that model feeds Link Radius Server. |
What you can do from RadixOLT
What each model can do is what its firmware offers. Both were probed verb by verb for anything RadixOLT does not do.
| Action | How | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Reboot an ONU | CLI | OP-EOLT_11444: refused for an ONU that is not online, and the ONU’s own mode is checked on the prompt before the command is sent. Confirmed on live hardware on both models. |
| Disable or enable an ONU (generic EPON) | SNMP | Verified by flipping it and reading the chassis’s own control flag back. |
| Delete an ONU (generic EPON) | CLI | Confirmed by a read-back: The ONT is not exist means a delete worked here, and the same words refuse a reboot. |
Not on the OP-EOLT_11444, because the firmware has none of them: deleting, disabling or discovering ONUs. It authorizes what it hears, and its nearest commands reject or blacklist an ONU rather than remove one. No line-fault alerts on that model either: it reports almost every drop as Laser out, which a power cut, a reboot and a cut fibre all produce, so alerting on it would page you for every router switched off.
Two EPON chassis, told apart by model
Optilink badges two unrelated EPON OLTs. Both are EPON, so the technology cannot separate them; the model you pick when adding the OLT chooses which adapter reads it. Picked wrong, the other adapter reads an empty fleet, so the model is required for Optilink.
| OP-EOLT_11444 | Generic EPON (EasyPath) | |
|---|---|---|
| ONU identity and status | CLI show onu-info all | SNMP |
| Optical power | SNMP | CLI per PON port |
| Distance and deregister reason | CLI, on an optional slower sweep | Distance over SNMP, reason over the CLI |
| PON port state and traffic | Transceiver readings only | SNMP, ports and traffic |
| Reboot an ONU | CLI | CLI |
| Disable or enable an ONU | Not in the firmware | SNMP |
| Delete an ONU | Not in the firmware | CLI |
| MACs behind an ONU | CLI port listing | CLI |
| Verified on | Firmware I_V3.0.15_Rel, 4 PON ports | Firmware V1.5.2, 4 PON ports |
Commands one click away in the terminal
The OP-EOLT_11444 commands offered beside the live session. They live in config mode, which this CLI enters with configure, not configure terminal. As on V-SOL boxes, ? after a command runs it.
- show onu-info all
- show onu-info <pon-port> all
- show onu-info <pon-port> onu-id <onu-id>
- show optical-diag <pon-port>
- show port state all
- show onu-version all
- show mac-address epon <pon-port>
- show version
Notes from live chassis
What reading this platform taught us, written down so you do not have to find it out on your own plant.
The per-ONU MAC command answers with someone else’s MACs
show mac-address epon onu <pon> <id> does not filter when the ONU it names has no MACs: it returns the previous query’s row relabelled with the new id. Reproduced three times out of three. RadixOLT reads the port-wide listing and keeps the rows that name the ONU.
Uptime is capped by the chassis’s own
After a reboot one chassis came back with its clock a month slow, every ONU registered under that date, and NTP then moved the clock forward: every online ONU read exactly 31 days of uptime on a box up 22 minutes. An ONU’s session cannot outlive the chassis, so uptime is capped at the chassis’s own uptime.
Event log lines land in the middle of commands
The chassis writes events into the CLI session as they happen, even in the middle of a command’s echo, and terminal no monitor does not stop them. They carry MACs and port numbers, so they are stripped before anything is parsed.
The line editor drops spaces
show onu-info 1 onu-id 5 reached the chassis as show onu-info1onu-id5. RadixOLT types a character at a time, and an empty answer has to prove the command ran before it is believed, so a mangled command can never empty the ONU list.
Config mode can refuse for minutes
The chassis answers configure with “The OLT system config are recoverying, please wait!!!” for minutes at a time. RadixOLT retries inside the same session before giving up, and quotes the chassis’s sentence when it does.
No CPU reading over SNMP
The CLI reports the chassis’s CPU with show cpu-usage; no SNMP table carries it on this firmware. It is noted here because during one 100% CPU incident there was no other way to see the number.
Adding one to RadixOLT
Everything the onboarding form asks for, in the order it asks.
- Make the management address reachable
RadixOLT polls from its own servers, so the OLT’s management IP, or a NAT forward to it, has to answer from outside. If it cannot, the self-hosted install runs the same product inside your network.
- Pick the model
OP-EOLT_11444 or Generic EPON. Required for Optilink, because it is what chooses the adapter.
- Give it a CLI login
Telnet, the port, a username and password. No enable password is needed. Both models read part of their fleet over the CLI. Stored encrypted and never shown again.
- Give it SNMP
The community and the SNMP port: optics on the OP-EOLT_11444, identity, ports and traffic on the generic model.
- Turn on auto-poll
Every 15 minutes by default, spread per OLT. Distance and the deregister reason on the OP-EOLT_11444 are an optional slower sweep, about two minutes for 200 ONUs.
