Genexis OLT monitoring and ONU management
RadixOLT reads the Genexis Saturn GPON OLT entirely over SNMP, discovery included, so a sweep never logs in to the chassis. Authorizing, rebooting and deleting ONUs run over the CLI, each built from a session captured on a live chassis.

What RadixOLT reads
Every read RadixOLT makes on this platform is SNMP, so none of them claims the chassis’s CLI. The one exception is the list of line profiles, which this firmware keeps out of its SNMP tree. SNMP reads take none of the OLT’s CLI logins, which most chassis allow only one or two of. CLI means a session over SSH or Telnet, whichever the OLT is set to.
| Reading | How | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ONU list, status, serial and description | SNMP | The ONT index is slot, port and ONT id, so ports read as 0/8 both on ONU rows and in the port list. |
| ONU optical power: RX and TX | SNMP | The two readings the screens draw. Voltage, bias and temperature are left out of the sweep on purpose; see the notes. |
| Uptime and offline reason | SNMP | The time column counts time in the current state, so it is uptime only for an online ONT and is shown only then. |
| An open ONU page, live | SNMP | Re-read every 5 seconds while the page is open, with no CLI session. |
| Unauthorized ONUs waiting on a port (autofind) | SNMP | With vendor id, equipment id, hardware and software versions, password and LOID, more than the CLI’s own list prints. |
| PON ports and their transceivers | SNMP | Link and admin state, TX power, voltage, bias, temperature, wavelength, module vendor and serial, matched field for field against show interface sfp. |
| Uplink VLANs | SNMP | Per port, from the table that agrees with show interface brief. |
| MACs behind an ONU, and the whole chassis at once | SNMP | Each row names its own slot, port and ONT. The whole-chassis read feeds Link Radius Server. |
| Uplink, PON and per-ONU traffic | SNMP | Interface counters for both sides, and per-ONT statistics. |
| Line profiles | CLI | show deploy line brief all. The deploy-config tree is declared in the MIB and absent from this agent. |
What you can do from RadixOLT
Writes run over the CLI. The chassis confirms some of them in words that also appear when nothing changed, so each write is decided by what the chassis reports afterwards.
| Action | How | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Authorize an ONU | CLI | A deploy rule with the ONU’s serial and line profile, committed with active. A description goes on its own deploy entry, because the rule’s name never reaches the ONT. |
| Reboot an ONU | CLI | ont reboot. The chassis’s own success sentence is required; its absence is treated as a refusal. |
| Delete an ONU | CLI | delete aim from the deploy-rule view. The chassis answers with a count, and success: 0 is a refusal. |
| Add or remove uplink VLANs | CLI | The verb is chosen from the port’s trunk or hybrid mode, adds only the VLANs being changed, and is read back afterwards. |
Not on Genexis yet: disabling and re-enabling an ONU. The admin-state object reads the same value on every ONU of the chassis tested, and nothing has been deactivated there to prove it means what it says. Chassis health and saving the configuration are not wired up either.
Commands one click away in the terminal
The Genexis commands offered beside the live session. The login prompt reads Username(1-64 chars):, which generic terminal tools wait on forever; RadixOLT logs in to it.

Notes from live chassis
What reading this platform taught us, written down so you do not have to find it out on your own plant.
The optical table is slow, so the sweep reads two columns
Walked alone on a 609-ONT chassis, RX took 81 seconds and each other optical column about 40. Reading all five, four of them ran out of time on every sweep and RX came back for barely half the online ONTs. With RX and TX only, the optical walk finishes in about 84 seconds with nothing cut short.
show vlan credits the channel, not its ports
Two uplinks in a link-aggregation group carry VLAN 150, and show vlan lists the group instead of them. RadixOLT reads per-port membership from the table that agrees with show interface brief.
The time column is downtime on an offline ONT
It counts time in the current state: three days of uptime on an online ONT, three weeks of downtime on an offline one. Shown as uptime, that would credit a dark subscriber with three weeks of service, so it is shown only while the ONT is online.
Authorization is two commits, not one
A deploy rule only stages the ONT until active commits it, and that command asks yes or no first. The description is a second entry with a commit of its own. A command that looks right in show deploy rule output is not always the one the chassis accepts: it renders permit sn and only accepts permit sn string-hex.
Every value is text, even the numbers
Optical power arrives as "-20.45" or "N/A", and the offline reason as a bare code inside a string. Each column is parsed on its own terms, so a placeholder can never become a reading and a code is never shown as 11.0.
Uplink VLAN edits add, they do not replace
Tested on a dark trunk port carrying 150 and 306: adding 310 left all three. RadixOLT sends only the VLANs it is changing, which also keeps a busy trunk under the command’s 128-character limit.
Adding one to RadixOLT
Everything the onboarding form asks for, in the order it asks.
- Make the management address reachable
RadixOLT polls from its own servers, so the OLT’s management IP, or a NAT forward to it, has to answer from outside. If it cannot, the self-hosted install runs the same product inside your network.
- Give it SNMP
The community and the SNMP port. Every read uses it.
- Give it a CLI login
Telnet, the port, a username and password. No enable password is needed. Used for authorization, reboots, deletes, VLAN edits and the terminal. Stored encrypted and never shown again.
- Turn on auto-poll
Every 15 minutes by default, spread per OLT. A 600-ONT sweep takes about a minute and a half.
